The Chartering Department as a cornerstone of the General Shipping Services core business plays a major role in the success of the company. Our in-house brokers are experts on every cargo. They know exactly which ship is suitable and in position for each cargo and ensure continuous employment of our time charter vessels.
While instructions are provided by the Traders, chartering negotiations is an on-going process. Among other things daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reports are obtained and reviewed by the Chartering Department in order to assess market conditions and identify opportunities. The Chartering Department is responsible for:
- screening various employment opportunities for the respective vessels
- negotiate terms and conditions of the contracts under which the vessels are going to be chartered
- receives instructions from the Traders to choose which vessel size to pursue
- establishing and maintaining relationships with reputable head owners, chartering brokers, Charterers and traders
